The major project that was considered our "Semester" project has been the Quest for Refuge project. The purpose of this project was, what it means to tell someone else’s story about their quest for refuge. We as a class and a university were truly honored to have the ability to interview people form all different backgrounds in the refugee world and learn and share their quest for refuge. My group and the honor of interviewing and sharing the story of Chanravy Proeung who is a first generation Cambodian American. As a group we learned to use iMovie as well as Audacity to film a one on one interview in which she described how life is being a child of a family that has gone through a genocide and has experienced refuge. As well as the two softwares, we also learned how to film and use a digital camera and learned the tips and tricks on recording a successful interview.
The overall project really was a powerful piece and having to compact someones whole life in the matter of a seven minute video definitely wasn't easy but as a group, we worked hard and long and couldn't be happier with the way the film came out in the end. Learning the many different stories from each group in the class not only made me appreciate my life more, but made me look at the word refugee differently. Whenever the word Refugee was stated before this class, I just assumed it was about Syria but that wasn't the case and after learning and taking this class as whole has allowed me to see the struggles in different countries such as Cambodia and Liberia.
